Assessment has value when it changes teaching or learning
Why the number of tasks matters less than the quality of evidence and the response that follows.

The signal
Assessment can certify achievement, guide teaching, help learners reflect or meet reporting requirements. Confusion grows when one task is expected to do all of these things without a clear purpose.
What the evidence asks us to notice
- Formative evidence must arrive in time to act.
- Criteria should match the intended competency.
- Feedback should be usable by the learner.
- Teachers need a manageable way to carry findings forward.
The Asmbly lens
Asmbly can attach activities and criteria to the lesson objective and keep results visible when the next lesson is prepared.
A necessary limit
Automated task generation can increase volume without improving evidence. Teachers should control cognitive demand, fairness and appropriateness.
