Earlier learner support begins before the final mark
The most useful signal may be a pattern of hesitation, absence, repeated misconception or incomplete work.

The signal
End-of-term results show where learning ended, not always where the difficulty began. Earlier support depends on evidence that is close to the lesson and a teacher who has time to interpret it.
What the evidence asks us to notice
- Connect evidence to the competency.
- Notice repeated patterns rather than one result.
- Include attendance and opportunity to learn.
- Review whether the intervention changed anything.
The Asmbly lens
Asmbly can surface patterns while the class context is still visible, helping the teacher decide who to check in with and what to revisit.
A necessary limit
Early warning systems can stigmatise learners when signals become labels. The design must support discretion, correction and positive action.
